Welcome to Volume 2 of our ongoing greatest PSOne games of all tiem feature. Whew try saying that three times fast. This week we are focusing on the letter "b" and this collection of titles may be obscure to some as it does contain a few titles you may have never played, but overall these five games are more than worth digging up. So if you have not played these check them out now, or if you have perhaps it is time to dig them out of storage for another go around. Enjoy our next five titles on the list!
I am sure everyone remembers the original Toshinden which was available at the launch of the PSOne, but did you know they made three more after that? That is right friends Toshinden 4 was the final chapter but this series did run for quite some time. While parts two and four were forgettable on most aspects the third iteration was incredible. Tons of characters to play as, the stages were ahead of their time, and the amount of unlockables was enormous. Yes while it may not be the best fighter on the planet it certainly was the best in this series and definitely worth checking out if you skipped it the first time around.
Not since this game has an idea seemed so appealing to me. Imagine the ultimate game of tag where when you are it you have a bomb strapped to your chest with a timer counting down. Blast Chamber is still one of the best games on the original PlayStation if for nothing more than its ridiculous amount of originality. This game deserves to be revisited with XBox Live support but sadly that will probably never happen. Thankfully I still have my copy of this game and if you don't I suggest finding one now. Best party game ever!
I am sure most people are familiar with the Legacy of Kain series, but you would be surprised how many don't know of the original title that started it all. Dubbed as a violent Zelda style game involving vampires and lots of blood sucking the first Kain title was played from an overhead persepctive just like Link's classic adventures. Being the only chapter in the series developed by the famous team at Silicon Knights (Eternal Darkness, Too Human) Blood Omen really set the bar for a lot of games that followed. If it hadn't been for the extremely long load times this game could have easily been a massive hit among the masses, but for now it remains a fantastic game that most never knew existed.
Fighters seemed to be a dime a dozen on the PSOne so it really took something special to stand out in the crowd. Developer Eighting, who is also responsible for those lovely Naruto games you kids love so much, created the original Bloody Roar almost ten years ago. The fighter is a fast paced arcade button masher with one small catch, all of the brawlers can morph into animals during the battle. The gimmick actually worked and made the game a ton of fun to play with friends. No one would ever accuse this title of trying to compete with the serious fighters such s Virtua Fighter, but no one can deny just how damn fun this game truly was!
Yes this will be the third, count them, third fighting game on this list, but you have to remember that this was the peak for this genre. Bushido Blade may be classified as a fighting game, but it was so much more. Adding in the ability to kill opponents with one fatal strike and making the arenas so open ended this game was a blast to play with friends. Unfortunately the license was sold and now we have to deal with Kengo...well at least we got two of these titles to keep us warm on those lonely nights!
